On Remembrance Day 2024, we gathered to acknowledge, honour and remember those who have served our country in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
This year marks 110 years since the start of the First World War, in what was Australia’s costliest conflict. After four years of continuous fighting, the guns of the Western Front fell silent at 11am on 11 November 1918.
We remember and honour the 103,000 Australian men and women who have served and died for our nation, as well as recognise the sacrifices made by their families.
We were delighted to be able to welcome Hon Madeleine Ogilvie MP, Josh Willie MP and Hon Cassy O’Connor MLC.
LVRSL President Andrew McShane delivered the Remembrance Day address.
Chaplain Paul Crennan delivered the opening (and closing) prayers and LVRSL Patron Don Jeffrey recited the Ode.
Noel Hunt played the Last Post and the Rouse.
The Sacred Heart Choir sang both the Australia and New Zealand National Anthems once again this year and Phoebe Green and Katie Hoskinson sang ‘Where have all the flowers gone?’ LVRSL sincerely thanks the Sacred Heart Choir, Phoebe and Katie for their support.
The Club would also like to extend thanks to Andrew McShane, Don Jeffrey, Mike Wilson, Craig Spencer, Noel Hunt, Paul Crennan, Leigh Lazarus, Sacred Heart College, the Committee of the LVRSL, and all others who helped on the day.
They willingly gave their time and expertise to ensure the service was conducted smoothly and with respect.
We sincerely thank Club Life Member Peter Dane for again coordinating a very successful Remembrance Day and acting as master of ceremonies.
After the service many gathered at the new Veterans Reflection Walk and Memorial to share stories about the meaning of Remembrance Day.
