ANZAC Day 2026 – Lest We Forget
There were strong attendences for both the Dawn Service and the Main Service in 2026.
The Dawn Service was conducted by Peter Dane, President Andrew McShane and the Rev. Charles Holmes – Chaplain.
Lindsay McTye provided a photo presentation on the wall of the Pat Murnane Memorial Hall. The Veteran Dedication, provided by Adele McTye was about Private Ellis Erle DEAN .
The ODE was recited by our President Andrew McShane, at both the Dawn and Main Services.
The Dawn Service had a good crowd of 350 - 400, and was followed by breakfast in the clubrooms.
We welcomed the Veterans Motorcycle Club South to lay a wreath.
Duncan Warburton sang “And the Band Played Walzing Matilda” while slides were displayed of the world wars and ANZAC spirit. At the end of the service, Duncan sang “Hey True Blue” while we showed photos celebrating 80 years of the Lenah Valley RSL.
The Dawn Service was followed by breakfast in the Clubrooms. Breakfast was again prepared by volunteers, Mick Lewis and Sandesh Limbu and we thank them very much for their efforts.
The Main Service (and March) was also very well attended by an excellent crowd of over 500.
Stella Paske and Romy Collins-van Buuren, of Mount Stuart Primary School gave the Student Address.
Once again, the City of Hobart Highland Pipe Band lead the March and we especially thank them, as they have supported our services for over 50 years.
The Main Service was also conducted by Peter Dane and the Rev. Charles Holmes.
Sergeant Stephen Stuart TUFFIN was the subject of the Veteran Dedication, provided by Adele McTye.
The Wreath laying was commenced with Club President Andrew McShane laying a wreath on behalf of the Club and Andrew Leggate a wreath on behalf of the League. They were followed by students from local schools, families and Association representative.
LTCOL Peter Hodge, RFD, RAA (Ret’d) provided the ANZAC Day Address (see separate article).
The Last Post and Rouse at both services were played by Noel Hunt and we thank Noel very much for his continued contribution to our ANZAC Day services (30th Anniversary).
The contribution by the respective choirs, bands, participation by our local schools and the laying of wreaths at both services all contributed to another memorable Commemorative Service.
We thank Peter Dane for his ongoing contribution to our major LVRSL Commemorative Events.
Peter Dane made special mention of thanks to Michael Wilson (Public Address) and Noel Hunt (Bugler and Band leader) for their continued participation in our ANZAC DAY Services over more than 30 years. Peter is supported by many volunteers (at least 40 individuals) and sent a thankyou memo to them following the ANZAC Day Services. It was another outstanding team effort.
We also very much appreciate the ongoing support provided by twelve local businesses for their donations. We would struggle without their support.
Finally, our thanks to the Lenah Valley Community for their continued support on this important day.
