ANZAC Day Address – Tuesday 25th April 2023 - Address by Josh Willie MLC
Australians are well versed in the ANZAC story, as demonstrated by your presence here today. Thank you for coming to remember the courage of those who have served. Before dawn on the 25th April 1915, the brave souls of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed on a foreign soil on the shores of the Gallipoli peninsular.
The men were part of a British and French led invasion. The Allies mission was to destroy Turkish guns that were preventing naval ships from reaching and bombarding the Turkish capital, Constantinople. If they succeeded, Türkiye might be forced out of the war and Germany would lose an important ally.

ANZAC Day 2022 - We Haven't Forgotten.........
We thought that last ANZAC Day 'may well have been the best attended in the Club’s history'. We weren't quite correct. Attendances at both the Dawn Service and the Main Service in 2022 exceeded those of last year and reflected what took place across the country.

ANZAC Day Address - 25 April 2022
What does it mean to say Lest we forget? The ode to the fallen that we recite on this day each year ends with those three words. When the monuments to the fallen were put up across our nation, those words were carved on them in stone. ‘Lest’ is an old word, almost lost to our language today. It means ‘for fear that’ we forget. This monument, this ceremony, this day exists lest we forget. These are not soft words. They are not a vague promise that we mumble on this day each year so that, our remembrance duty done, we can move on with our lives. There is a reason they are carved in stone. These words take us by the shoulders and shake us. They are history’s index finger pushed into our chests, a reminder of our duty as the beneficiaries of their bravery that we must never forget them.
